Dr. Boyle receives an NIGMS Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award to develop long-read genomic technologies for studying variation in repetitive regions of the human genome. The project will combine Cas9-targeted nanopore sequencing of mobile element insertions and short tandem repeats with Fiber-seq and HiPore-C to measure DNA sequence, methylation, chromatin accessibility, and three-dimensional genome structure on individual molecules. This award supports a unified research program to determine how inherited and somatic repeat variation alters gene regulation and contributes to human disease.
