The SMaHT Network marker paper is published in Nature! The SMaHT Network marker paper describes an ambitious effort to build a reference catalog of somatic mutations and clonal patterns across 19 tissue sites from 150 non-diseased donors. The network will combine large-scale tissue sampling with new sequencing technologies, computational methods, and rigorous benchmarking to reveal how somatic variation accumulates across the body and contributes to aging, health, and disease. The Boyle Lab is proud to contribute through our SMaHT technology-development project jointly with the Mills lab, including new approaches for detecting somatic mobile-element insertions and other difficult-to-measure variation.
